Alarm goes off, get up now! It’s 6:30!! I am already running late! Eat breakfast, take a shower, brush my teeth, shave, put on some smell good, and get dressed (my clothes are ironed from the night before). Say my goodbyes and I Love You. Hop in the car, jam out to some “feel good music”, stop and fill up with gas (on empty from my showings last night)! Pull into my West Cobb office, say hello to everyone, check my emails, and reply to my emails. Oh no!! It is 9:00 already, time to lead generate! Call, call, call…… voicemail, voicemail, voicemail! Call…….Finally, a real life, breathing person on the other end of the line! Set the appointment, ah, appointment set! Call, call, call….voicemail, voicemail, voicemail! Call….. Finally, another real life breathing person! Click!! Ouch, that hurt! Call, call, call……voicemail, voicemail, voicemail! Call…… Finally, another real life person! “No, we are not in the market. We are just looking. We will call you when we are ready”! Call, call, call…..voicemail, voicemail, BAD NUMBER!! Call…….finally, a living, breathing person! Set the appointment……appointment set!! That’s two!! Oh no!! It is 12:00 o’clock! I have a 12:30 lunch meeting with a lender in Smyrna (30 minutes away) to discuss how we can make the experiences of our clients better! Awesome lunch, thank you! Yikes! It is 2:00 and I am supposed to show homes in Kennesaw at 4:30! Call, call, call……voicemail, voicemail, voicemail! How am I supposed to sell your listing if I cannot set a time to view it with my clients!?! Finally, return calls start rolling in. I now have 3 out of the 8 homes set up to view (the others just went under contract yesterday)! I am back at the office now with my favorite website on my computer screen, FMLS. Searching, searching, searching, I have to find the perfect home for my clients. Nope, that one will not work, it has no finished basement and the backyard is not big enough. Nope, that one will not work, split level! Hold on, my phone is ringing! Wow, I love it when a past client calls to thank you and to tell you they love the home you helped them buy!. Back to FMLS, yes, that looks like exactly what they are looking for! Already under contract…… really? Well, back to the drawing board we go. Ok, just emailed 12 listings, not perfect matches, really close matches. Oh no! It is 4:00, I have showings in 30 minutes!!! It is 6:00 now and I am back in my car with a big smile on my face. I just showed 3 homes and my clients found their absolute dream home! “Dinner is ready”, I hear coming from downstairs at my Marietta home office. Wow, it is already 7:00 pm! Man, that dinner was delicious! I have to go run comps, we are going to submit an offer! Comps emailed, offer drawn up…….boom, offer signed! Ok, it is only 8:30, I bet the other agent is still working! I bet they will be thrilled to see an offer come through! Ring, ring……Awesome, thank you (after 3 rounds of negotiations)!! It is now time to call my client and make their dreams a reality. “Guys….. Congratulations, you are now homeowners!!”! Ok, it is time to read, it is only 11:15, wait, I have to send out two emails that I promised! Ok, it is midnight, I am tired, 6:30 is only 6 ½ hrs away. ZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzZZ
The moral of the story is not to make you feel sorry for us Real Estate Professionals; the moral of the story is to fill you in on how much I love my job! I became a Realtor because of the way our Realtor made us feel during the process of buying our home. It truly is a blessing to be able to have such a great career that I love doing. Working 10, 12, sometimes 15 hours out of the day, and sometimes running around totally oblivious to the time, makes it all worth it when you have a client look you in the eyes and say, “Thank You so much, you have helped us buy our dream home”! For most of us Realtors, it is not about the money, it is about the satisfaction knowing that we helped our clients turn their dreams in to a reality! I do love my job and the fact that I get to help people every day, well, that makes all the long days well worth it.
